Rising Up
May 26, 2020 was the first day of protests which ignited the world. The change the world seeks will take time and constant conscious efforts and I’m in it for the long haul.
With so much happening in the world, it can be difficult to stay centered. So I’m putting my energy and laser to work to help keep focused. I created a few pieces to have inside my home as regular reminders to be strong and push forward. For outside my home, I used re-used wood pieces creating signs to connect with my neighborhood community. Here are some things I felt compelled to make.
Because of the Covid-19 shut-down, many more people walk by our house these days. We feel more connected to our neighbors then we ever have. These signs are my way of connecting with them and letting them know how I feel. I hope it has people thinking about moving forward together for a better future.
I often hear children and parents reading the signs together. Sometimes the children ask their parents what it means. It’s heartwarming to know those conversations are continuing as they walk away.
People have commented to me they like these pieces and asked for something of their own. I’ll have a few pieces available soon online or feel free to contact me for a custom piece.
As the daughter of a white father and immigrant mother, race and patriotism has always been a challenge for me. I’m taking this opportunity educate myself, listen, better myself, and hold onto hope. I know that we can do so much better and do so much more, together.
